The Best 5-Ingredient Peanut Sauce

The best tip I can give for making the ultimate peanut sauce – make it yourself! It takes only five ingredients and less than 5 minutes to make, but once you’ve made it once, you’ll never want to buy it again. Can’t tolerate peanuts? Almond or cashew butter make excellent substitutes!

Choosing a Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is the main ingredient, and this recipe is designed to use peanut butter made from just peanuts and salt. For my celiac friends, I always recommend choosing a brand with ingredients you recognize and that are naturally celiac-safe. Be sure to look at the ingredients list to check for added sugar ingredients (sugar, molasses, corn syrup, agave, coconut sugar, cane syrup, cane sugar). If your peanut butter has any of these ingredients, reduce some of the brown sugar used in the recipe.

Celiac Tip: Keep Your PB Safe!

While peanut butter is naturally gluten free, beware that a jar of peanut butter can pose a high risk for cross contamination if used in a shared household. Why? Imagine dipping a knife into the peanut butter jar, spreading the peanut butter on a slice of wheat toast, and dipping the knife back into the jar. Now it’s contaminated. I recommend having your own dedicated PB jar labeled “gluten free.”
